Learn about what causes your pain

Tension Headaches

What Is It?

A tension-type headache causes mild to moderate pain that's often described as feeling like a tight band around the head. Tension Headaches can be episodic or chronic, lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to an entire week! If your headache lasts longer than a week, it would be considered a chronic headache.

What's The Cause?

Tension headaches occur when neck and scalp muscles become tense or contract. The muscle contractions can be a response to stress, depression, head injury, or anxiety. They may occur at any age, but are most common in adults and older teens. It is slightly more common in women and tends to run in families

How We Help!

Tension headaches are very common since we all spend many hours looking at our phones and computers. The issue is the neck and trap muscles are locked in a weakened position for a long period of time. Mobilizing and lengthening these muscles with bodywork will alleviate the tension and remedy annoying headaches throughout the day.

Plantar Fasciitis

What Is It?

Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of each foot & connects the heel bone to the toes, aka the plantar fascia.

What's The Cause?

The cause remains unclear in many cases of plantar fasciitis. Tension & stress can cause small tears, and repeated stretching & tearing can irritate or inflame it.

Certain factors could put you at risk including:Age Common in People 40-60Types of Exercise Activities That Place High Stress on Heel & Attached TissueFoot Mechanics Flat Feet / High Arch / Atypical Walking PatternsObesityOccupation That Keeps You On Your Feet

  • Age (Common in People 40 - 60 Years Old)

  • Foot Mechanics
  • Flat Feet
  • High Arch
  • Atypical Walking Patters
  • Obesity
  • Occupation That Keeps You On Your Feet

How We Help

The pain in your foot that is plantar fasciitis is not just a tightness in the foot. More often a tight calf and hamstring pull on the Achilles tendon, which then pulls on the bottom of the foot. The solution with bodywork comes from mobilizing the calf and hamstring which alleviates the tension from the foot.

Shoulder Impingement

What Is It?

Shoulder Impingement happens when the top outer edge of your shoulder blade pinches your rotator cuff beneath it.

There are multiple types based on the 4 muscles that make up your rotator cuff:

  • Rotator Cuff Tendinitis
  • Shoulder Bursitis
  • Acromion Defromity

What's The Cause?

Shoulder Impingement is almost always an overuse injury. This means it happens over time from certain activities & repetitive movements.

How We Help!

Shoulder impingements are tricky. There may be a lot of factors involved that are putting your shoulder in a poor position. The most common areas to address with bodywork therapy are your chest and front shoulder, rotator cuff, and traps. Mobilizing these muscle groups with blades and dynamic cupping will greatly improve the movement pattern and discomfort at the shoulder.
